Music Fest for our Monday Therapy {Monday Morning Therapy with Dongsaeng}

How is everyone's Monday going?  Ready for a little therapy?  I don't have a ton to discuss today, but I did find a lot of really fun videos last night that I wanted to share.  As I laid there in bed last night watching YouTube video after YouTube video from that day's musical show performances, it hit me just how fortunate we are right now as KPop fans.  The summer of 2013 has brought us just awesome music, hasn't it?  The music scene in Korea is just exploding and pumping out one hit right after another.  It's difficult at times to even keep up with the amount of awesomeness being poured out onto the music scene.

So this post will just have some of my favorite performances from the weekend.  And maybe some other stuff.  We'll see what catches my attention.  I hope that you find something here that will help you tackle the rest of your Monday and get you pumped up for the rest of the week.

Enjoy!  And feel free to share any of your favorite videos that maybe I missed either in the comments or on our FB page.

Here's the breakdown:  The first group is for my VIPs out there.  Lots of GD and Seungri from Inkigayo and M-Countdown.  Then there's some other performances from Sunday's Inkigayo of groups I like (Teen Top, Nu'est, Henry, and BAP).  Then there's the Japanese version of BAP's Warrior MV that wad just released a couple of days ago.  I know what you're thinking, it's Warrior, we've seen that already, but no, if you haven't seen this version yet, trust me, you'll want to.  It's awesome and amazing.  Watch it fast though - my sources warn me that Japanese videos often don't stick around for long before they're yanked off the interwebs.  (Hey Japan, maybe that's why KPop is so popular around the world and in your country because they're not stingy when it comes to sharing the love and making the music accessible - hint, hint)  And finally, last but most certainly not least, I put up JYJ's new release, "Only One" that they did for the 2014 Asiad games in Incheon.  I already gave my opinion on this video on my FB page, but in case you missed it, I'll tell you here as well what I think about it.  I'm going to put it down below though after the video so as to not spoil it ahead of time.  If you can't find something on this list that you like, then I just don't know what to tell you.  Hopefully there's something here for everyone.  Okay, there aren't any girl groups.  You got me there, but otherwise, I think we covered a good portion of the recent musical gamut.

My thoughts on the JYJ video....

The boys look AMAZING!  Especially my Jae and I don't say that just because I'm biased.  Yeah, of course I'm biased, but he looks absolutely spectacular here.  The song itself is catchy in a "you're never going to get it out of your head if you're not careful and it will drive you insane at some point" kind of way. And the video, oh the video.  Cheesy fantasticness.  If you're going to go cheesy, go all the way I say, and they certainly did here.  One can't help but smile.  It's a happy, cheerful song.  Super duper sugary sweet cheesy goodness.  Enough to warm even the most cynical of hearts.  If this can't make you smile, well, then I just don't know what will.  They definitely tried their best.  I love Korea!

Proud2BVIP {Monday Evening Therapy with Dongsaeng}

Monday beat me today.  A sick kid, a sick mom, and a husband working 12 hour days 6-7 days a week lately.  I was just done in through most of the day.  Thankfully I was able to find some R&R in the form of a dramathon.  I watched several episodes of Sungkyunkwan Scandal.  Can you believe I've never seen it?  Crazy, right?  Obviously I had to right that wrong, and I've been diligently chipping away at it all day.  Now that I've got a bit of my sanity back, I thought that I should get my post out, even if it's a bit tardy.

So, what's on my mind today?  Well, lately, for some odd reason, I've been feeling all V.I.Pish so maybe I'll talk about that and everything going on in the wide, wonderful world of Big Bang.  You know, at the risk of being incredibly and entirely biased ;)

Yesterday (8/18) celebrated G-Dragon's birthday.  Happy birthday GD!!!  We neglected to get a proper birthday post up, but you were certainly in our thoughts that day.

Then, the day after, 8/19 (oh hey - that's today!), celebrates Big Bang's 7th anniversary.  Happy anniversary guys!!!
7 years of Big Bang - it's a wonderful thing, is it not?  It's not too common for KPop groups to last this long, so yeah, it definitely is a wonderful thing and we look forward to many, many, many more years to come.  As long as they still want to make music, I'll still listen and love it.  I am proud to be a VIP!
Just found this on Pinterest and thought it was perfect!  And so going to be me!  ^_^

And then, last night (in my corner of the world), maknae Seungri released his solo MV "Gotta Talk to You".  Our little maknae is all grown up in this one!  I loved his sophisticated, uber manly look with the suit and the hair and everything.  It was understated and classy.  Good work Victory!

Also to come out recently was GD's teaser for his upcoming solo album, "coup de tat"

 I don't know about you, but I'm looking forward to this one's official release!  Creepy faces in motor oil and all.

Anything else to mention?  Have I forgotten anything in my "Monday totally beat me up" haze?  I hope not, cause I'm off to bed for some more dramathoning (and because it appears that my dear child may have chosen to share his fever with me - delightful child that he is and so very good at sharing).

Ooh, wait! There is something!  It's unrelated and more personal in nature, but guess what came in the mail today?  Our first official Crazy Ahjummas business cards!!!  There have been a couple of times I wished I had some on me to share and so I decided to take advantage of one of the "free" offers out there once and for all and get some.  They're purty and I'm proud of them and the happy, warm fuzzy feeling it gives me to hold them in my hand and see our name in print.

Before I dash, I'll leave you with a final few questions.... What's your favorite Big Bang song?  Music video?  Who's your favorite member?  Who's the biggest VIP out there?  I know many of you are.  Sorry to those that aren't since this is obviously a very Big Bang-centric post.  Well, not really all that sorry.  We are talking Big Bang here - it's not like I ever shy away from talking about them to anyone and everyone whether they want to hear about them or not ;)  Even my personal, non-K related FB page got a VIP upgrade for the day.  I'm sure there were plenty of eye rolls going on amongst my family and friends.  See how fazed I am by it?  {Since you can't see me, I'll just tell you, I'm not, at all fazed in any way}.

Now off to my wonderful happy place of dramas, dramas, dramas!!!  Have a wonderful rest of your evening as you unwind and recover from your Monday and prepare for the rest of the week!  Thanks for stopping by!

On Air {Monday Morning Therapy with Dongsaeng}

What is going on this year?  How did the drama deities get it so right this time around?  We go from one amazing batch of dramas straight into another.  I'm never going to be able to get to my "to-watch" list if this keeps up*.  I have 5 currently airing dramas going right now.  Granted, this isn't an all-time high for me (my top ever was 6 if I remember correctly), but still, 5 currently airing shows is a lot.  So far though, I'm loving every one of them that I'm watching and can't imagine dropping any of them.  Am I just too easy?  A drama slut?  Should I raise my standards?

Nah.  I just think that there are a lot of good choices out there right now.  And I want to take a moment and introduce some of them to you if I may.

Since we are already reviewing them on a per-episode basis, I will refrain from talking too much about Master's Sun or Good Doctor.  Though, as I am not personally reviewing Master's Sun, I'd just like to publicly come out and tell you how much I am loving this drama so far.  I know we're only 2 episodes in, but so far, I think it's my favorite of the new batch.  If you haven't picked it up yet, I'd suggest giving it a shot.

Master's Sun is a ghost story, but oddly enough, not my only ghost story I have going at the moment.  I'm also currently watching Who Are You?  This is the one about the police officer who wakes up from a six-year coma and can now see ghosts.  She works in the lost-and-found department and some of the items there have stories, and ghosts, attached to them.  And even though we haven't gotten to that point yet, we're promised a love triangle that involves the ghost of her dead boyfriend.  Now come on, who couldn't love a story like that?  So far I'm enjoying this one.  I'm a big Ghost Whisperer fan, and this one reminds me a lot of that show.  The creep out factor isn't very high and, say what you will about his acting, Taecyeon is very nice to look at (p.s. his acting is just fine in my opinion - maybe not top tier, but not dreadful and doesn't detract at all from what's happening, so we're good).

Two Weeks is another one in my weekly rotation and the only one I'm a little behind on.  I haven't quite finished episode 2 yet.  Personally this one is most likely going to be the most difficult one for me just because of the subject material.  It's about a man who one day finds out that he has a daughter and that she's dying of cancer.  By some miracle, he is a match for the bone marrow transplant that she needs in order to save her life.  He meets this daughter surreptitiously and is instantly enamored by her bright and adorable disposition.  This kid is seriously cute.  It's impossible not to love her.  The operation date is set and then trouble starts.  He's framed for a brutal murder.  This show is intense and tears at my heartstrings as a mom.  I don't do well with injustice and shows where bad stuff is going to happen to good people because of bad people.  Quality-wise, this one is a slam dunk.  Everything about it is top notch.  I'm just a tender soul I suppose, so I'm going to have to watch this one in little spurts in order to protect my poor widdle heart.

My fifth drama that is currently airing is You're the Best Lee Soon Shin.  Yeah, we're already 44 episodes into this 50 episoder (I'm only on ep 40 as I chose to slow down and not catch up because I'm very impatient).  Since this one has been airing for quite some time, I will spare you the details, but just say that, it is officially my longest drama to date and, well, I'm still watching it all these episodes later.  I really am loving Jo Jung Suk and IU along with the rest of the cast (minus Grandma - really don't like her - wish she had died back when she threatened to).  If you like family dramas, I think this one is a winner.  It's a least a nice mellow break when I'm a little burnt out on the heavier stuff.  A perfect addition to the rotation.

Being the true addicKt that I am, I look at this list here and think that it's awfully sad and lonely and could use some more.  Hard to imagine those days when I would only watch one drama at a time.  One drama.  What was I doing with my life back then?  What a waste.  ;)

So, what are you watching?  What should I add to my list?

Now, for your dose of Monday pick-me-ups.  It's no longer morning, but for me, I needed this stuff more in the afternoon today.  (what?  No, this has nothing to do with my Monday morning nap I took instead of finishing this here post - what would give you that silly idea?  I totally planned on getting this out late.  *whistles innocently*)

D-O-Y-O-U-L-O-V-E-M-E?
2NE1 released a new song recently and I thought it was fun and fresh. I enjoyed the simple video of just the girls playing. It's a perfect summer song along with their last Falling in Love. It's just nice to see them more as natural girls in a natural setting doing what girls naturally do. It's a refreshing break from the over-styled, super sexy model look.

Dance practice

A friend of mine recently began a KPop-centered radio show on the airwaves of Austin, TX.  It's called THE FIX and airs Sunday evening 6-7pm Central Time.  Thanks to modern technology and the TuneIn app, I've had the exciting privilege of hearing the first two weeks of this show and am loving it!  It's so fun to hear these songs play on the radio as they should. Anyway, one song that she played yesterday caught my attention and brought me back to the first time I had heard it. I love being reminded of music I had loved yet forgotten. Since she resurrected it for me yesterday, I thought I'd do the same for you today. It really is a great song by a great group and doesn't have nearly the number of views that it deserves. I'm here to right the wrong today. Let's get that count to jump! Here is MFBTY's Sweet Dream...

Here's another fun one that maybe you haven't heard. Lunafly released a new song on Aug 4th. Lunafly is one I'm still getting to know, but I am really liking them so far and am happy to help spread the love. This one has English captions available for you if you click on the CC button - a nice feature for those of us who's Korean still isn't where we wish it were ;)

I think that should give you a good assortment of old, new and different for the day. Yes, I know that there are other bigger videos out there right now like BAP and EXO and whatnot, but chances are good that you've already seen them. I wanted to throw a couple of random ones that maybe were missed along the way. Guess I'm just in the "path less taken" kind of mood today. Hope that whatever is left of your Monday is fantastic and that you have a great week! Thanks for stopping by!

* "That reminds me of this story..."
The other day I was talking to a couple of friends that are non-addicKts.  They were asking me about this blog and dramas and KPop in general.  One question honestly left me completely void of an answer.  This friend asked me, "what will you do if you ever stop watching these shows?"  Huh?  I was puzzled.  Stop watching?  Why in tarnation would I do something crazy like that?  "Well, what if one year they just weren't any good?"  Okay, obviously you are speaking crazy talk and just don't understand what you're saying here.  I get it - I do, but.... ???  A whole entire year without a good drama?  What do you think this is???  American TV?  *oooh -slam!*  First, that would never happen.  Second, even if it did, uhm, have you seen my "to-watch" list?  It is crazy long and grows longer by the day because there just aren't enough hours in the day to make up for all this time lost.  I was honestly dumbfounded and absolutely without a reply other than, "I don't know because that would just never happen".  I'm sure she looked at me like the fool in that scenario, but she just didn't know that it's too preposterous of an idea to even ponder.  We know, don't we, the absolute zero chance of that day ever coming where there just isn't anything left to watch?  I mean, come on now.  That's like one of the most ridiculous and unlikely events to ever take place.  Silly friend.  *Pats head while cooing at her sweet innocence*  Anyway, just thought I'd share with someone who would understand my blank response.  It's not often I am at a loss for words - kudos to her for finding such a moment.

Ramblings and Musings: Monday Morning Therapy with Dongsaeng

Well, hiya there!  And how are you doing?  I'm just fine, thanks.  Sorry for my MIA action this week on Monday.  I didn't forget.  I wasn't sick.  I wasn't out of town.  I just really had nothing to say.  Sometimes Mondays are like that you know.  I'm still enjoying the latest music video releases from the likes of KHJ and Junsu and wasn't really ready to discuss any others that have come out (because they just weren't as epic and monumental in my extremely biased opinion).  Today though, as often happens, I was waxing philosophical as I showered and dressed for the day.  So many thoughts and ideas were spinning around in my head and so I decided that I would strike while the iron was hot and write it all down in preparation for next week's Monday Morning.  Did I mention that today is Wednesday?  I would have posted it today while still fresh but Wednesday is Unnie's day, so you will get the slightly stale version.  Sorry.  Sort of.  Stale isn't the best word for it.  Better to write while the juices are flowing, right?  And what I'm writing about isn't time sensitive or anything.  So it's more like putting my thoughts on ice for a few days.  Once they're thawed by Monday morning, they'll be just as fresh as they were the day they went in, down, whatever.  You know what I mean.

Soooo, what's today's topic?  Well, funny you should ask.  As I was writing this, I was actually trying to remember myself.  I got a little panicky because I couldn't remember and here I was telling you how I was going to share this mind-blowing stuff with you.  So I stalled.  Could you tell?  I am like blog ninja so I doubt it.  Stealthy as I am and all.  Two ideas, completely different from each other, are actually swirling around up there.  One is angry and full of vitriol and the other not.  As I tend to be a generally nice person (hahaha - no really.  shut up) I'm going with the non-vitriolic.  Okay, that's more due to the time sensitive thing mentioned earlier, as by Monday morning it will most certainly have developed and changed as it is an ongoing thing.  I suppose I shouldn't be all vague and mysterious about it.  I'll just tell you, in case you haven't already guessed, it's about the whole SM/JYJ/FTC thing.  You know, Fair Trade Commission finding SM and some other acronym guilty of preventing JYJ activity and issuing sanctions against them and SM's swear word swear word swear word response.  Ugh.  I don't want to talk about it.  Okay, yes I do, but not now.  Some other time, if for no other reason than I don't want your Monday morning to start off all angry and boiling over.  That's not a good way to start the week, wouldn't you agree?  Besides, your Monday Morning Therapist shouldn't be responsible for committing such a crime.  That's like a malpractice lawsuit just waiting to happen.

No, today I will not talk about that.  Today I will talk about something else that is percolating and mulling around up in there under the hair.  Today I talk boy bands.

I was out to lunch with some of my gal pals yesterday.  One asked a couple of them about a recent concert they had attended.  This concert featured blasts from the past such as Boyz II Men and New Kids on the Block.  They were kind of sheepishly admitting that they ended up enjoying the NKOTB more than they thought they would.  Come on girls!  You're children of the 80s and teens of the 90s.  That was our playground.  Why shy away from it?  Now, as a matter of full disclosure, I will say that I myself, back in the day, never could claim to be a fan.  Why?  Because that's just my personality.  It may not come as a total shock to you, but I am one that tends to automatically avoid pop culture.  If everyone is doing it, it's not for me.  For example, and please don't judge me too harshly here, I am a former Twi-hard.  Oh yes.  I read the books.  I went to the Twilight Prom.  I went to multiple book signings.  I dressed up.  I was very much into it.  But it was back when it was still this small phenomenon and not the ugly monster it became.  This was long before the first movie was ever made.  Once the movie came out and it became a part of mainstream pop culture, my interest died.  Poof.  Gone.  Ick.  No more.  I haven't even seen either one of the last movies.  I just don't care.  It was cool and kind of underground (oh goodness, please don't call me a hipster - groan) back in the day, but now it's just a hot train wreck and I'm running far far away from the carnage and trying to play off the fact that I was ever there.  What was it that changed?  The stories didn't.  They're still the same that they were.  But when public attention grew, I changed.  I have always been this way.  It is my curse, my anti-pop culture curse.  So, back in the day when groups like NKOTB and later NSync and Backstreet Boys were popular, I couldn't have cared less.  I listened, no joke, to classical music.  Yeah, like Mozart and his homies.  Yo, he was da bomb!  Why?  Because no one else was doing it.  It wasn't what was expected of me, a teenage girl, and far be it from me to ever be a stereotype.

Okay, so what does this have to do with what I'm here to talk about?  Well, I of course took that opportunity to point out to my friends yesterday at lunch that there was nothing wrong with liking boy bands.  They, knowing my "weird" interests of course laughed.  And then the topic moved on and was done.  Except it was resurrected in my mind this morning as I had my ponderous, contemplative shower time.  It got me thinking about the differences between those boy bands of yesteryear and those I love and adore today.  And it got me thinking about culture and society in general.  Why?  What is the appeal of Korean boy bands to someone who, back when it would have been socially acceptable, steered clear of such things?  My own personal quirks aside, I came up with another additional reason, and it's one I believe with a rather large scope.  A scope that reaches far beyond hotties dancing and singing (though, I am still a big fan of that of course).  Going along with my shun-all-things-pop-culture, I never understood those that followed celebrities or cared one whit about them.  I didn't know who married who, who cheated on who with who, or whatever current news/scandal was going on in the entertainment industry.  TMZ and Inside Edition were totally lost on me.  It even went as far as to anger me when people cared about such vapid nonsense.  Ha. Now look at me.  Now I care, but not even about my own culture - about one on the other side of the world.  A culture I have no personal connection to.  I wish I did, but I don't.  I simply stumbled upon it one day and was caught up in this whole new world in a way I have never before been.  Is some of that the novelty of it all - the fact that it's something no one else around me is doing?  Yes, definitely.  I fully admit to that.  Yet, there is more.  There's a whole world of stuff out there that my friends aren't following that I too am not following.  So why the K world?

You know, when I first started watching dramas, I insisted to my teasing husband that my interests would never go beyond just watching a few tv shows now and again.  I told him that I wasn't interested in learning about Korea or Korean culture or society.  I wasn't going to try to learn the language or any other silly tomfoolery such as that.  It's laughable now to me, as here I am two years later and so completely and totally engrossed in this culture that I must every once in a while step back and remind myself that I am just a visitor here and sadly not a full-time resident.  Though, and this is just me rambling more, at the same time I'm grateful to be who I am from the culture I'm from.  I'm proud of my heritage.  There are points about my culture that I love and treasure.  I have not, nor do I ever plan to, denounce my American culture.  I am a red-blooded Daughter of the Revolution and American to my core.  This, however, does not preclude me from recognizing and appreciating things and aspects of other cultures, and, as has been the case with Korea, embracing a good majority of it.  As I sit back and watch my own beloved society crumble around me as widespread entitlements and general bad behavior start to take root, I look to cultures, such as those in the East, longingly.  Our different culture's entertainers illustrate the divide so well.  Let's take a look-see, shall we?

When you think of a Western entertainer, what kinds of things come to mind?  Most likely they're related heavily to wealth and a posh lifestyle, as well as the vices that come from such things.  Now, wealth isn't bad, wealth doesn't equal these less-enviable traits.  However, at the same time, celebrities in our culture are often given a free pass to do things that regular people wouldn't do.  I will refrain from getting all preachy, and just leave it up to you to think about.  Think about qualities in certain celebs that you see that you don't like.  Certainly there has to be something.  Now, look at Korean celebs.  I am fully aware that they are not perfect and that there is a lot more going on behind the scenes than we know about.  I am not an idiot.  They're human and fallible just like the rest of us.  A glaring difference though is what society as a whole is willing to put up with from them.  Western world celebs can get away with some crazy stuff and it doesn't hurt their careers.  But look what happens to Korean celebs when they do minor things - things that here wouldn't raise an eyebrow, but there can be career killers.  There is arguably a greatly increased social awareness on the part of Korean celebs.  Not only that, but the whole idea of respect is more valued there.  I will never forget the image of Big Bang bowing, down on their knees, to their audience as they finished their tour.  Where were the smashed guitars?  The destroyed stage?  The wild after-party plastering the front page of the gossip rags?  What did they do?  They acted like pretty darn good well-behaved young men.  And they immediately went back to work.

Again, I'm not here to argue that their way is not without its pitfalls and troubles.  Of course it isn't.  I'm not even going to get into the whole concept of them working themselves literally to death (when you think for example of all the car accidents that happen in the middle of the night due to exhaustion and such).  It's not perfect.  It's not without its own flaws.  I will, however, argue that given the choice, I would much rather support those that work extremely hard for what they have and don't abuse it so openly and brazenly.  I love and appreciate seeing a celeb apologize for silly missteps instead of wearing it proudly as a badge of honor.  I much more enjoy seeing a "yes sir, can do" kind of attitude than a "screw you, it's all about me" one.  Am I over-generalizing?  Yup.  I sure am.  I will argue though that my over-generalization is based upon years and years of watching from the outside.  Call me a goody-two-shoes or what have you, but I like that the Korean artists are well-behaved and respectful and humble.  I love the "scandals" and how minor they are.  I love just how pure and innocent that world is and mourn the day when it is lost, as it most certainly will be.  I hope not, but I'm sure it will happen.  It happened here, it can happen there.  I for one hope that I am long gone by that point because I don't know if I could handle seeing so many wonderful things that they have going for them disappear through apathy and vice.

You know, I had a moment the other day when this struck me.  And it wasn't about the giltz world of the idols.  It was while watching a news report on that incident in Japan where the lady was under the train and the crowd rushed to lift the train car off of her.  The news reporter I was watching was just shocked, because, in her experience, more often, crowds just stand there motionless for lack of not knowing what to do.  But the fact that the entire crowd immediately rushed to action floored her.  How sad is that?  No really, how sad is that?  What a perfect illustration of the different directions a society can take.  Not that everyone here is cold and heartless and callused.  Of course not.  Most of us are warm and loving and caring and would do whatever we could to help someone in need.  Yet, as a people, we've lost that ability to work together as a whole.  We've become so separated and segregated that we've lost that sense of society.  Leave it to someplace like Japan to show us how positive a healthy sense of community can truly be when used for good.

My take away from all this is to not put one above another.  I simply want to say that there is something that we can all learn from each other.  No matter where we are from or who we are, we have good in us that can and should be appreciated by others.  This is ultimately how Korea won my heart.  Sure, the boy bands and dramas helped draw me in, but the people and culture and what they have to offer kept me coming back for more.  Imagine what a force we could have in this world if these cultures drew the best from each other and incorporated it even just a little bit more instead of blindly and foolishly thinking that one has it more figured out than the other.  There has to be a way to find balance, to bridge the gaps that separate us and find common ground that we can all believe in and support.  Korea has a heritage and a culture that they can and should be proud of.  The people of Korea make me happy to know them better.  I am proud of and humbled by the wisdom and maturity they demonstrate.  Their voice may be a quiet one in all the overwhelming buzz of the world, but it's one we should really stop and listen to - we just might be able to gain something of value.  I know I have

Now, what kind of Monday Morning Therapist would I be if I didn't give you something pretty to look at and/or listen to? A pretty lousy one I'd venture to say.  I'm going to start with one that is slightly personal.  I'm honestly a little nervous to put this out there for fear of looking like an even bigger weirdo than I already am.  But really, what else is a girl supposed to do when, by a total and freaky coincidence, her biggest hearthrob just so happens to have the same colored bedding as her and posts a selca on Twitter?  Especially on a lazy Sunday afternoon when she has nothing better to do?  So yeah, I had a little fun with it.  And I'm kind of proud of how it turned out.  It makes me laugh and I'm hoping it will make you laugh too.  If for no other reason than the silliness of it.  Oh goodness, you guys....  this is so embarrassing!  I was trying to mimic his face and look really goofy doing so.  It's not fair when your idol is undeniably prettier than you.  Okay, time to stop with the stalling and just yank the bandaid...  Here it is --
Omigosh, I swear I am not some freak ssasaeng or anything.  I had this bedding l o n g before I even knew who Jaejoong was.  I swear.  And I really suck at imitating him.  And no, pervs, I wasn't going to go topless.  Trust me, no one wants that.  No one.  But yeah, this is what happens when I have too much time on my hands and too much material available to not do it.  What kind of fan would I have been if I had let an opportunity such as this slide by?  And what kind of poor excuse for a crazy blogger would I have been?  Just try and get this image out of your head today.  >:-}

Change in plan...my computer is seriously messed up. I can't put anything else on here.  I don't even know if it will publish at all at this point.  So I will have to post any videos I wanted to share on the FB page.  I'd link it, but again, computer isn't working and letting me do such things.  My apologies.  P.S.  Never let your children touch your computer unless you want it bombarded with all sorts of "goodies".  Grr.  I love my kids, I love my kids, I love my kids....

JUNSU!!! {Monday Morning Therapy with Dongsaeng}

***UPDATED***  Tuesday:  In case you missed it, or because it's worth seeing over and over and over again, here is the replay of Junsu's comeback showcase.  How fantastic was it?!?!  I actually managed to wake up at 3 to watch it and it was so worth the lost sleep.  Soooo worth it.  He was INCREDIBLE!!!  My favorite was the giant smile on his face.  He was just beaming.  This was such a huge victory in a hard-fought, long war and worth celebrating to the fullest.  The significance is not lost on us Xia sweetie.  We are so proud of you and how far you've come!!!  And we wish you the absolute best as time goes on.  Next step - let's get you on TV music programs shall we?  Come on Korea - it's time to welcome him back with open arms.  He's paid his dues and then some.  Don't waste such an amazing talent with petty bickering and dirty backroom music politics.  Not that I have an opinion on the matter ;)  Anyway, crusade talk aside, here's Xia's triumphant return with Incredible...

***Original Post***
I'm choosing to post this a little early because there's a major event happening in less than 6 hours.  At 7PM (Monday) KST, there will be a live streamed COMEBACK SPECIAL for the one and only Junsu/Xia!!!!  His new album has just been released a little over an hour ago, and going along with this release is this very exciting (shall I even say HISTORIC) broadcast.  A broadcast that almost wasn't, but thankfully all got worked out in the end.  And no, I don't want to talk about it.  It still stings a little.  Music world politics messing with our fragile JYJ fangirl hearts.  Big meanies.  I'm just glad that after everything that went on behind the scenes, it's actually happening.  This is HUGE you guys!  HUGE!!!

So yeah, wherever you are at 7PM KST, stop what you're doing and watch this showcase!  Even if it's at 3am like it is for me.  uhhhh...yeah...Junsu love, I will most certainly try my best to be there baby.  I've got it all queued up on the phone ready to go so I'm not blurry-eyed searching for a link at 3am.  Hoping for the best!  Also hoping for a recording later in case I miss the live show.  But I sure hope I don't miss the live show.

Want a little taste of what is to come?  Have you seen the new video that just came out?????  I cannot even begin to tell you how much I love him in this video.  Junsu's dancing is just so...so...so...yeah.  So very very yeah.  I love it.  I can't get enough of it.  There's just something about the way this boy moves.  It's no secret who my bias is, but even I have to admit the great appeal that Jae's fellow group member possesses.  And after watching something like this video, I really appreciate the vast talent held within JYJ (and the former DBSK - AKTF/Cassie4lyfe!).

Okay, enough of my chatter.  Who wants to listen to me drone on when there's fresh JUNSU offerings to partake of???  It's all good guys - I totally get it.  HAWT NEW JUNSU coming up!!!  I promise, it's Incredible!  ;)

Have a wonderful Monday and an XIA-cellent week!  (yeah, I know it doesn't work perfectly, but just roll with it - I'm trying here).

Dhr-ahma! {Monday Morning Therapy with Dongsaeng}

Good Monday morning addicKts!  And how are we all doing this fine day?  Ready to take on another week?  It's July.  Summer is in full swing for everyone across the Northern Hemisphere, which I suppose means that winter is in full swing for all you Southerners.  It's 109F at 8:00PM as I write this Sunday night, so I'm a wee bit jealous of you wintering Southerners.  Wanna send some of that chill up thisaway?  Oh yes, we're talking weather!

Oh wait, no.  No we're not.  Just teasing.  Nope, today we're talking dramas!  Yay!  Dramas!  Dramas are awesome, aren't they?  Dramas cheer up the long, hot summer where regular TV takes a nosedive from its already very low perch.  Oh!  Burn!  TV, you're so lame!  Haha!  You've been pwned!  (< looksee how hip and current I am)  Speaking of current (like that perfect segway there?), want to know what dramas I am currently watching?  If so, keep reading.  If not, well, then you might just want to hit that little x up in the corner right there because that's what I'm going to be talking about today.  But of course I hope you stick around.  Please don't go.  I'm needy.  And in a sharing mood.

Obviously we know that I'm watching I Hear Your Voice since that's the drama I am reviewing, so I won't say anything more, except that if you aren't watching it, why not?  It's pretty spectacular and awesome.  And I'm reviewing it - what's not to love?

In addition to the obvious, I am also watching a few other dramas at the moment.  Like...

You're the Best Lee Soon Shin
This is my first really really long drama and I'm not caught up yet.  But there's still like a bazillion more episodes to go so I'm not too worried.  Honestly, I haven't watched this one in a week or so (definitely more "so" in this case), so I don't have too much to say about it right now.  I like it.  I can tell you that.  Like it enough to keep going even though it's so long.  I even like IU as an actress, and it's always great to see my awesome Prince Charming again.  Okay, he wasn't a prince, he was a guard, but he loved a princess (in King 2 Hearts) and befriended a king, so I'll call him Prince Charming if I wanna.  All of the characters I think are phenomenal, except for maybe the grandmother.  Frankly, Grandma annoys the snot out of me.  I want to smack her sanctimonious self upside the head once in a while.  But I refrain myself.  She is old and been through some tough stuff.  Good drama though - I'll have to think about revisiting it more this week.

Monstar
I just started this one the other day and believe that I am in episode 3, maybe 4.  Somewhere around there.  It's different and unique, and while it didn't necessarily catch me immediately, by the end of the first episode I was curious to see more.  By episode 2 I was officially marathoning it.  You know, while I could.  I had to get some stuff done too, like watching and reviewing episode 10 of I Hear Your Voice.  Oh work, even when you rock, you can still spoil a good time...with uhm, another good time?  So far so good.  The music in this one is spectacular.  It's produced by music company Mnet (their very first project like this - kudos guys) so the music is a focal point and the actors talented musicians as well.  Or at least really good at faking it.  Most of the cast is made up of new faces.  Some have one or two other projects under their belt, but even those were mostly minor.  I'd say that this is the first big project for the majority of our leads.  I love seeing fresh faces.  The female lead especially has a very unique and intriguing look to her.  This is one that I've been thinking about all day and have been anxious to keep going on.  Always a good drama sign.

Dating Agency: Cyrano
Haha...just kidding.  I'm actually not watching this one...yet.  I hope to start it in the next day or so as I've heard it's good.  I'll keep you up to date if I do start it and what I think of it then.

Gu Family Book
I really shouldn't even be counting this one as I haven't gotten very far or watched it much over the past few weeks.  With all my fluffy modern ones, I'm having a hard time staying focused on the sageuk.  It's not that I don't like it, I really do so far, I am just easily distracted.

Mischievous Kiss: Love in Tokyo
Whoa, whoa, whoa - wait just a darned minute here.  I think you're in the wrong place.  This here is a KOREAN drama post and Mischievous Kiss is obviously Japanese.  Yes, you got me, but just hear me out, k?  This is a really fun and cute Jdorama and I am completely and totally hooked.  As you may know, it's yet another retelling of a former manga (Itazura na Kiss).  You know Playful Kiss?  Same story, only Japanese like the original.  And uber cute!  And a bit kookie.  The lead actress at first started out looking pretty good to Playful Kiss's Oh Ha Ni.  I found her less pathetic.  But by now, 14 episodes in, I'll be honest and say that sometimes she wears thin on me.  She has this facial expression with pursed lips that makes me want to scream anytime she pulls it out - and oh boy oh boy, is that all too often.  Over-exaggerated facial expressions and full body spaz-outs aside, she's not too bad, I suppose.  And the lead actor is growing on me, whereas at first he was rather dull and boring.  And not very cute.  Now they've flip-flopped and I like him more and her less, but still, incredibly entertaining dorama.  My one and only real complaint about it (aside from the aforementioned facial expressions) is that it only airs once a week.  I am all caught up and waiting is so very difficult.

Okay.  That's it.  That's my current lineup.  It feels too short.  I think I need to add more in.  Granted, I neglected to mention the anime I'm also watching in between - Ouran High School Host Club.  And my on-going obsession with my favorite YouTubers.  Ahh -- this is one reason I LOVE summer!  Drama mania!  It's just so...so...so...well, you know.  I don't have to tell you.  You understand.  You get the magic.  The magic is in you.  We see eye-to-eye here.  Isn't it wonderful?  I'm just glad smart people like you exist in the world so that we can squee together.  It's so nice to have others that "get it", isn't it?  Most of us I'm sure don't have that in our circle of friends and family (well, at least I don't and most addicKts I know personally don't - maybe you're different and if so, where do you live because obviously I need to move) and so it's a relief to find like-minded individuals.  The kind of people if we were to be in a room together would just have to give each other the knowing look and smug grin, like "oh yeah, I gotcha.  I get it.  We good.  You cool, I'm cool, we all cool.  These other fools, they ain't cool, but that's a'ight - we love them anyways".  Don't you hate it when old white girls try to sound gangsta when talking about Korean dramas?  Yo!  What up wit dat man?  This ol' lady is whack.  Wiki wiki - wiki wiki - whack.

Happy Monday yo.  And a dope week too.  Speaking of dope - you ready for a little Monday Morning Prescription written by me - Dr D?  Let's see what we can rustle up for you, shall we?

So yeah, in case the rock you've been living under hasn't had internet access for the past day, 2NE1 released a new MV.  Check it.
Here's Falling in Love:

Need more?
How about a little jolt of java? I am a big BABY, so here's B.A.P.'s latest, Coffee Shop. I'm pretty sure we haven't shared this yet and it's been out for a little bit now. While this is a ballad and not B.A.P.'s signature strong sound, I still find it to be a pretty song and I don't hate it. At this point I guess I understand why they want to use a mix of different genres and sounds so as to not be pigeonholed, but I'd be lying if I didn't say that I love their strong sound best. They have something that is hard to duplicate and/or replicate.

I believe Unnie already shared this one, but I'm going to throw it on as well because it's Junsu and Junsu deserves lots of love. This is hauntingly beautiful in its simplicity. The track is different in that it's not acapella like the MV, but I like both versions for different reasons. I mean, it's Junsu. With that voice, the boy is just golden. He could sing me the phone book and I'd be enraptured.  Junsu's 11AM:

Well, well...lookie here. Guess what else was just released a bit ago? A teaser for Xia's new MV coming out on the 15th. It looks a little Tarantallegra to me which makes me happy!!!

And finally, I finish off with a little more pep and energy to get you rolling for the day. This one has been out for a bit, but it's one I've had on repeat for the past couple of days, so it makes the list today. Henry's Trap (music show performance):

A Whole New World {Monday Morning Therapy with Dongsaeng}

I had a hard time coming up with a title that accurately and succinctly reflected what I was wanting to chat about today.  The one I have is close, but not quite.

Obviously, as I'm sure you have all experienced to some degree or another, my foray into this wonderful world of K has opened up a brand new life to me.  I mean, here I am, some random mom, writing a blog post and here you are reading some random mom's blog post.  Who would have ever thought this is where we would find ourselves that first fateful day we clicked "play" on our first drama or music video?  What I wanted to focus on today though goes beyond that - beyond the borders of South Korea and their pop culture.  Mostly, and more specifically, let's chat YouTube.

This past little bit, I have finally found myself venturing into this YouTube thing.  More than watching MVs and fan vids and whatnot.  More than Charlie (Bit My Finger) and David (After Dentist) and all those now cliche videos that may come to mind when one thinks of YouTube.  If it wasn't for my addicKtion, I don't know if I would have ever stumbled upon some of what I consider to be the very best entertainment out there.

It started with a little Eat Your Kimchi.  But that doesn't fully count, because I always accessed them through their blog, not directly on YouTube.

Then came KCon.  I saw Simon and Martina, but there were a lot of other internet stars there that I had never heard of - but I was pretty much the only one that hadn't.  They were hugely popular.  Hordes of people there, all clamoring to see them.  Maybe not as much as the actual KPop idols that were there, I mean, let's not be crazy or anything, but still, they were there and people knew who they were.  I was intrigued and realized that there was more to this world than I could have ever fathomed.

Then there was a video my sister sent to me because it mentioned KPop and she knew of my KPop "thing".
(sorry, tried really hard to embed this one but YT is being goofy for some reason)

Wong Fu led to others that they collaborate with.  Seriously, it's like this whole giant club of really cool people that have channels on YouTube and are incredibly entertaining (and beat the socks off of pretty much anything on TV).

This week or so I've been particularly obsessed with this guy:

I kept seeing him in Wong Fu productions like this one

(uhm...hello?  That's JAY PARK with them!!)

and figured that he was kind of a big deal and that I should check him out.  Yup.  He's kind of a big deal.  Jay Park I believe would agree.  Glad I checked him out.  I had seen a couple of his videos before knowing really who he was and how he fit into this whole online puzzle.  Did you know that there was this entire community of (mostly Asian) online entertainers?  I really didn't.  And I probably would have never known if it wasn't for my addicKtion.

Now I have something I can watch when I need a laugh.  Or information.  Or bonding time with my kids because they're just as hooked as I am.  I feel like I am learning so much about all sorts of things I never was exposed to before.  Like anime for example.  And just general nerdy or geeky stuff.  I love it!  It's the age of the (cool) nerds/geeks and I have a toe in the door cracking it open just wide enough to get a good peek inside.  And I love what I see!  And I feel sorry for all my friends who totally ignore the door and miss all that goes on on the other side.  So thank you Korea for existing, for entertaining, and for being a gateway into a huge sub-culture that just completely and totally rocks.  If you haven't seen or heard of any of these guys, check them out.  You might just like what you see.

P.S.  There are plenty of others out there - I have only scratched the surface.  KevJumba is another big name that comes to mind.  FamousAmos isn't too bad.  I've also been enjoying some of what ISAtv has to offer, especially their game show. Start exploring if you haven't yet.  You'll be amazed at the many directions you can go!

Harmonious Sounds {Monday Morning Therapy with Dongsaeng}

Recently I've been listening to the soothing and soul-mending sounds of my favorite guys singing acapella and other harmony-heavy tunes.  Being a pseudo-musician myself (you know, I was like in choir and stuff in high school hahaha), I have an affinity for acapella and harmonious music.  It really does just speak to me and calm my troubled heart.  Or my untroubled heart.  It's good anytime really.  I don't mean to pigeonhole it into something when the application can be all-encompassing and a great deal more vast than our occasional emo moments.

Right now I'd just like to take a moment and direct you towards some lovely music.  Some is acapella, some not, but all have been playing recently around here and so I thought I'd share.  Because they're pretty.  And we could all use a little more pretty on a Monday morning.

I'll start with some old school DBSK/TVXQ when they were still together.  What I wouldn't give to see these 5 perform live once again.  If I had a bucket list, it would be at the top.  Their voices are just amazing together and go straight to my heart.  I'm only going to post links to these since they aren't "official" vids and that's just my thing.

Hug

Why Did I Fall in Love with You

Somebody to Love

Whatever They Say  (in this one, Jaejoong is sporting the craziest hair I've ever seen him sport - I love it in a weird way!)

10 Minutes of more DB5K acapella

and, probably the most beautiful, harmonious song ever by my favorite former 5 - Love In the Ice.  This one has been playing on repeat for days on my phone.  It's been my song of the week and so it's only fitting that I share it.

In addition to the acapella, I've been introduced to some cover songs by group Lunafly.  Do you know Lunafly?  This trio of very talented young men debuted last year.  I'm a bit Yun biased personally, though Sam's accent is killer.  Their own music is wonderful, but these cover songs have been amazing to listen to as well.  Here are a couple few of my favorites

Okay, so I hope these help you get started this morning and give you a lift and/or a boost.  May your week be wonderful and full of beautiful harmonious sounds.  Thanks for stopping by!

JYJ, AJ Birthdays and More! {Monday Morning Therapy with Dongsaeng}

Yes, you read that right.  It is Monday morning and I am back to say hi and greet you all!  If you missed me the past few weeks, then my apologies.  I missed you too and am excited to be back.

There's so much rolling around in my head right now that I want to talk about, but I'm aiming to still keep this short as whatever part of my body that is malfunctioning is not very travel-friendly and is protesting what I did to it this weekend.  Oh yes, that's right.  Did I mention that I spent the past couple of days in my own personal Mecca, aka California?  Specifically KOREATOWN LA????  More on that in a sec.

First and foremost, today is June 4th in Korea and I wanted to take a moment and wish two special guys a very happy birthday.

Park Yoochun of JYJ

and

AJ (Jaeseop Kim) of UKISS.
AJ is one of my two UKiss biases.  I just think he is the beesknees.  And super, uber cute.

JYJ was going to be my theme of today even before I knew it was Micky's birthday.  How's that for timing?  Why was it going to be my theme of today?  A couple of reasons actually.  One, I was in KTown this weekend and while there I managed to snag some much sought-after JYJ socks and other paraphernalia.  Score!  I now can wear my boys on my feet and take them with me wherever I go.  They spent all day with me yesterday in the car on the way home.  We very much enjoyed our time together.  The other reason was that upon waking this morning, all of my online social media was seemingly flooded with JYJ.  Jaejoong tweets (did you see the two of him in bed?  I had a lovely fangirl moment when I realized that my pillows were the same color as his.  Not that I then fantasized that it was MY bed he was in or anything like that.  Sheesh guys, who do you think I am??), new-to-me videos that YouTube was recommending for me, JYJ LINE updates, and the like.  It was a JYJ invasion.  An invasion of awesome.  So I wanted to share of bit of it with you.  Then I found it was Yoochun's birthday and it just fit in perfectly.  Great timing.  It's kismet.  Beautiful, beautiful kismet.

But before I jump into the JYJ stuff, I'll start with AJ's birthday shout out.

Kim Jaeseop, aka AJ
of UKISS and now sub-group uBEAT (along with my other UKISS bias Eli)
June 4th, 1991 (22)
Lead rapper, sub-vocalist
Blood type A (woohoo!)
Three things I personally like and admire about him:  he doesn't like doing aegyo, he plays the piano, he speaks English and sounds sooo adorable when he does <3

And now for Park Yoochun.

Park Yoochun, aka Micky, of JYJ
June 4th, 1986 (27)
Singer, rapper, composer, songwriter, model and actor
Three things I like/admire/find interesting about him are: he plays piano and guitar, he once lived in the US attending middle school and high school there until moving back to South Korea in order to pursue a career in music, he has a bracelet given to him by his younger brother that apparently he wears all the time (he'll tape it up out of the way if it doesn't match the concept of what he's wearing for work)

Happy birthday AJ and Yoochun!  We at The Crazy Ahjummas appreciate your talent and hard work and look forward to enjoying what comes next from both of you!

Now that we wished our two special guys a happy birthday, I will close out with a couple of videos that I had been planning on sharing.  These were new-to-me videos, cover songs done by JYJ and its members.  The first you may recognize as it is an English song.  Frankly, it was one I wasn't too excited to hear covered because I'm just not all that crazy about it in the first place, but I'm glad I watched because I now have found a brand new appreciation for it.  Turns out that watching my ultimate bias perform it was all that was missing from the equation ;)  The second is a song I didn't know before but enjoyed watching and listening to Jaejoong perform it.  His voice is just so amazing and powerful and I love it and him ever so much!  Let's jump start this new week and new month with a little JYJ fun, shall we???

May you enjoy the rest of your Monday and have a wonderful week!

P.S.  Here are the Jaejoong tweets I mentioned above in case you missed them...

P.P.S.  I didn't want to bog down this post with my personal travel stories and detract from the real focus of today.  I will go ahead and post a few pictures on my Shannen Dongsaeng FB page though for anyone interested in seeing a bit of what I did in KTown LA and stuff.

Here She Goes Again {Monday, er, Tuesday Morning Therapy with Dongsaeng}

Over the weekend I developed a new crush.

Obviously, the groundwork was laid beforehand, but this weekend was when it all came together and BOOM, crushville!

Who has caught this ahjumma's attention this time?  I'll give you a clue.  It's not just 1 person, but 7.

When I first met them they were these funky, weird pirates and I was kind of just like "meh".  At some point they were also these rival gang members I think?  Other times they have been gushed over by several friends and their pictures plastered all over my screen.  Through all of that though, I somehow managed to just turn a blind eye.

Then something in me clicked over the past week or so.  I found myself playing the "pirate" song.  Over and over.  For days.  It was my go-to song.  I then did something that I haven't done in a long time - I put on an internet radio station.  Most of what I heard was music that I already own (hence the long break I've taken from this particular form of music deliverance), but then a few new ones snuck themselves in there.  One of which was a song from these 7 guys that I hadn't heard before.  And I loved it.  And then, click.  It happened.  It finally dawned on me that, "hey, there's gotta be something here.  I think I really like these guys."

After that it was a bit of discovery work before finally coming clean to my already-obsessed friends.  Once the cat was out of the bag, a flood of pictures, music, and information started coming my way.  I have the best enablers ever I must say.  Anywho, so I started to listen to lots of music.  I started learning who was who.  Then I started the ever-important process of choosing a bias.  After watching this interview, I got it.  My bias that is.  Anyone want to guess?

First I should probably ask if you've figured out who my new crush is.  If you clicked on the link above, you have.  If you call yourself a BBC, you probably have, though I know I have been slightly vague, so if you didn't, it's okay.  I won't tell BBC headquarters and make you turn in your membership card or anything.

Okay, class, all together, let's say who we think it is out loud.  Ready?

Go.

{I feel like there should be a dramatic drum roll or something here.  Insert in your imaginations a dramatic drum roll, please.}

If you answered BLOCK B, you are correct!  {Now insert into your imaginations balloons and confetti dropping dramatically from the ceiling and a lot of cheering and clapping.}

I really like their sound.  Most of the time.  There's one or two in there that I'm not too fond of, but they're still young yet, so I'll let it go.  They are getting better with time, so I have high hopes for them.  You know, if they manage to stay together.  I sure hope I didn't just stumble into another DBSK/JYJ thing here.  I have a tendency to do that.  Well, I did it once if you want to consider that a tendency.  And that one happened for me a couple of years after the break-up so...you know...doesn't totally count.  Honestly, as I am still new, I really can't even tell you for sure what is going on there with the Block B sitch.  I heard about it as it was happening, but since I wasn't in to them, I didn't pay a whole lot of attention.  I know that they were fighting their management company legally and that lots of people were freaking out because that's just how the DBSK mess started.  I haven't heard much since then.  I am assuming that all activities of theirs are still at a stand-still.  I could look it up I suppose and actually be informed before I talk about it.  I didn't mean to bring it up though, it just kind of slipped out.  Okay, okay...my OCD senses are tingling and I can't let it go.  BRB.

Alright, I'm back.  And here it is, the Cliff Notes version.  I was wrong, it isn't their management company that they're fighting, but their agency.  Some of the complaints lodged against the agency are serious, like a whole ton of money being stolen by a MIA CEO.  And the fact that they also have not been paid in like a year.  Wha???  If you want to read it for yourself, here's a link.  Agency

A couple of days after the announcement of the lawsuit was made, another story came out about a couple of the members removing "Block B" from their Twitter IDs.  You can read that one as well if you so desire.
What the Tweet?

The latest news (at least on allkpop) is that last month they quietly celebrated their 2nd anniversary.  And yes, sad to say, the legal battle continues and activities have ceased.  Quiet

Now, I'm all depressed.  I was so excited but now I'm very worried that all my excitement will be for naught.

And it begs the question...

Okay, what this pity party needs is some music to cheer us up.  Here are some videos from Block B for us all.  We have to end on a positive note and not be all mopey.

Now, I'm about to throw a lot of videos up here.  Some will be the official videos.  There's one that is the dance version.  Then there are some from various music programs.  Watch all, watch some, it's up to you.  I just wanted to make things easier by having a whole selection here for you.  There are more online obviously, but I think this will get you off to a good start at least.

Since the list is extensive, I'll go ahead and say goodbye now and then leave you to it.  Hopefully I was able to spread some Block B love here today.  Even if it's Tuesday and not Monday, I wanted to help start your week off with maybe a new sound, or for those that aren't new to Block B, a sound that you hopefully enjoy.  Have a wonderful week!  I will be back with some Nine reviews at some point.  I'm like an old jalopy (car) with these reviews.  I get started and then stall.  Start again.  And stall again.  Sorry.  Seriously life can be a major spoilsport when it gets a hankerin' to be.  I'd just like to point out that I used both "jalopy' and "hankerin" right there.  That's my cue to exit.  When the inner hick starts coming out, it's time to go.  Go watch some dramas or something.  Y'all come back now, ya here?

P.S.  Did you think that I forgot to tell you my Block B bias?  Hahaha.  Nah, just wanted to see if you were still paying attention and stretch out the suspense all dramatic-like.  If you've come this far though, I suppose you have earned some resolution to the suspense.  And it is.....

Let's Give this a Serious Go {Monday Morning Therapy with Dongsaeng}

Hello and good day to you all!  How have you been since we were last together?  My apologies for once again falling off the blogwagon.  I spent a good deal of my week doctor hopping trying to get to the bottom of whatever this is that is keeping me from my daily life, including time here with my favorite addicKts talking about my favorite things.  Time not spent whiling away a day or two in transit and waiting rooms was spent sick in bed and/or playing catch up for the time spent sick in bed.  Life is fun sometimes, isn't it?  I don't mean to complain, really I don't.  This is neither the time nor place, nor is it really in my nature to be all gloomy.  So my apologies if that's how it comes across.  No, I just want you to know that the reason I've been kind of missing in action a lot lately is all because of me, not you.

Before I get started officially, I wanted to send a quick cryptic message to one of our most favorite and special readers.  Not even sure if she'll see this or not, but on the off chance that she does, we just want our dear friend to know that we are thinking of her and sending out all the love we can as she faces a heart-breaking loss in her life.  See, being a friend of TCA has its benefits.  You can get cryptic messages written just for you.  Membership has its benefits, no?  ;)

Now for the main show.  Since I slacked off last week, I didn't get to share these with you personally.  I'm sure they're not new by any means to you anymore and I'm incredibly late to this party.  Like embarrassingly late.  Well, like a week late I suppose.  I lost my invite and got the day wrong and now I'm standing on your doorstep with a bag of chips in hand ready to party.

What did you all think of GD's newest video, Michi Go?  Personally, while I liked it and watched it repeatedly, it's not my favorite ever of his.  It is fun and catchy though, even if a wee bit repetitive and kind of jarring if you're not in the right frame of mind (or maybe age bracket).  Still, it's GD.  I am hopelessly under his Dragony powers.  Sigh.  Even if there were many close-up shots of giant feet getting picked at.  Gag. (I have a foot thing, don't mind me).  And what a special surprise to see YG hyung Se7en make a cameo appearance.  It was like seeing a ghost from beyond the grave - you know, the military service grave.  Since Se7en is now serving his MS time and all.  Ah, Se7en...you and I have some major catch up to play in the next two years before you come back.  I look forward to getting to know you better so that I am all ready to welcome you back properly.

Another video that came out was SHINee's Why So Serious.  Okay.  So I have a choice to make here.  Do I tow the Shawol line and gush about how awesome this song and video are, or do I tell you what I really think, thus possibly alienating some?  After all, I think we all know how "passionate" netizens can be.  And yes, by "passionate" I do indeed mean "batcrap crazy".  Since this isn't a normal "fan" site though, I think we can all be mature enough to discuss this like rational human beings, right?  Well, let's give it a shot.

I love and adore SHINee.  I love their music.  Musically they are probably my number 2, right behind Big Bang.  Their music always makes me smile.  It makes me happy.  But this song from the onset bothered me.  A lot.  Just the concept of it.  Okay, more specifically, the title.  "Why So Serious".  Really?  We all know that GD ripped that one off of the Joker first for Crayon.  You hear that phrase and can't help but think of Crayon.  I'm sorry.  It's just true.  You can't deny it.  This bothers me because it then makes it seem like SHINee (read "SM" as I don't point fingers at the artists in this case) is just hoping to ride the GD wave of success.  It makes them seem like cheap copycats when in fact, they definitely do not deserve that.  They are in their own right absolutely amazing and deserve to be recognized for their originality and talent.  This just leaves a bad taste in the mouth that I don't like to see attached to a group I adore so much.  And let's talk numbers.  Now, I don't know all the ins and outs.  I'm absolutely 100% positive that this decision was not made lightly or happily.  I know that if they had seen a way around it, they certainly would have gone for it.  But the fact still stands that it just feels so wrong that Jonghyun was not in the video.  If you will recall, he was recently injured in an automobile accident.  Due to his ongoing recovery, he was unable to appear in the video.  Now, I am not a callused monster.  I am very glad that he is resting and recovering.  I certainly don't want to see him come back before he is all better.  We've seen how that goes in the past with people (actors, singers, what-have-you) being sick or hurt and returning back to work far too soon and just making their health worse.  I am glad he is taking the time he needs to get better.  And if that meant missing shows and appearances and the like, I wouldn't have any bit of problem with that.  But a video?  Again, I'm sure there is a very good and valid reason behind it, but it just doesn't sit well that an entire music video was shot without one of the members.  Was there really no way of delaying it just a bit?  A show/performance/appearance is one thing, but a video?  A video lasts a long, long time.  It's not like he's gone for 2 years doing his MS.  He hurt his nose.  Unless, of course, his injuries are more serious than they are letting on.  I suppose that's always a possibility.  I won't even give voice to the other thoughts swirling around in my head about what could be going on behind the scenes.  I will just assume that what we are hearing is the truth, the full truth, and nothing but the truth.  If that's the case, well, then, it seems odd that they couldn't wait a bit longer for him to recover before shooting and promoting.

Now, despite all of that, let me just make clear that I still like the song, these two things excepted.  It's cute.  It's catchy.  The four boys did a great job.  I liked that they were dressed better and that their clothes and appearances were less distracting.  So the video isn't entirely memorable (except for the glaring missing member), but it's not bad.  Lots of close ups of cute boys singing.  For most Shawols, we don't ask for much more than that, do we?  In the spirit of full disclosure, I should mention that I am not like most Shawols.  While I love the music, I'm not all fangirly for SHINee.  I don't know why and I don't know if this is a permanent affliction (I have decided that Onew is my bias, at least for now, but I'm still not gaga for any of them in that way), but I'm okay with it for now.  In fact, I'm actually quite pleased to like a group solely for their musical product and not all the rest of it.  I'm good with it.  I'm great with it.  Sorry if that makes me the odd-one out.  I don't know if I can legitimately call myself Shawol.  I don't even have a SHINee Pinterest board.  I know, right???  Crazy that.  So for me, I was kind of just meh on the whole video.  I can tell you however, that my full Shawolic friends were CRAZY for it.  Taemin especially was getting a lot of love from them, the true Shawols.  And Minho.  And Key and Onew too.  They appreciated all the screen and sing time that Taemin had.  Cool.  I'm happy they were happy and I am therefore going to assume that this was pretty much the case and consensus across Shawoldom.  So congrats boys on another great release!  I look forward to hearing the rest of the album.

SHINee's been busy promoting their new album on the airways.  Here are three performances on the major music shows from the past few days.  As an extra bonus, the Music Core and Inkigayo both also feature the song SHINe in addition to Why So Serious.

And finally, before I sign out, just a quick note about GD's on-stage injury during his first Osaka concert over the weekend. It's supposed to be a minor injury and he's supposed to be just fine. I hope that is truly the case and he makes a full and speedy recovery. Lots of love to both he and Jonghyun! Be careful out there guys - your fans hate to see you hurt!

Have a great week addicKts!  Thanks for stopping by!
